About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform highly technical estimates for transmission line and substation projects
  • Support project sponsors in developing conceptual estimates
  • Collaborate with engineering, project management, and stakeholders to develop detailed project scopes of work
  • Prepare detailed project cost estimates based on approved scopes of work
  • Interface with planning, engineering, project engineering/management, outage management, construction, and operating company personnel
  • Identify, initiate, scope, status, and follow up on estimate efforts
  • Provide recommendations and guidance regarding estimate approaches and input requirements
  • Develop and analyze historical project cost records
  • Review and critique designs and specifications for cost effectiveness and suggest alternatives
  • Adhere to standard estimating processes and review estimate bases and assumptions
  • Work with functional departments and service organizations to develop services labor estimates
  • Provide technical direction and guidance regarding estimate development, assumptions, qualifications, and issue resolution
  • Assist with maintaining estimating software integrity and associated cost data
  • Demonstrate ethical behavior and support corporate compliance

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering in an ABET-accredited program for Engineer Associate
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering in an ABET-accredited program plus 2–4 or more years of related engineering experience for Engineer
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering in an ABET-accredited program plus 4 or more years of related engineering experience for Engineer Sr.
  • Alternatively, a non-ABET bachelor's degree in engineering plus a master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET-accredited bachelor's program
  • For Engineer Sr., alternatively 2 years of related engineering experience plus a master's degree or PhD in engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged and preferred for Engineer Sr.
  • Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination is encouraged and preferred for Engineer Associate
  • Ability to perform highly technical estimates for transmission line and substation projects
  • Knowledge of project scoping and estimating procedures
  • Ability to develop and analyze project cost estimates, cost models, databases, and contingencies
  • Ability to collaborate with project management, engineering, planning, construction, contractors, and other stakeholders
  • Ability to review designs and specifications for cost effectiveness
  • Ability to use and maintain estimating software and associated resource and assembly cost data
