About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage multiple complex projects or programs within a matrix team environment
- Lead project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and control, and closeout
- Plan, organize, direct, coordinate and manage assigned project activities
- Apply Waterfall and Agile project management principles and techniques
- Support the AEP System Safety Process and hold employees and contractors accountable for safe work
- Manage project plans, schedules, budgets, tools, staff, costs, and funding reallocations
- Communicate project and outage details and status updates
- Lead planning meetings, project updates, stakeholder presentations, and reports
- Develop and manage relationships with project teams, plant and operating company staff, customers, partners, contractors, vendors, suppliers, and regulators
- Provide guidance, instruction, training, feedback, and accountability to project teams
- Align projects with AEP project management standards and business unit guidelines
- Identify and implement business process improvements across projects or programs
- Assess and mitigate project risks and support executive management in resolving elevated issues
- Manage scope, technical solutions, contracts, owner-contractor risk allocation, deliverables, and team requirements
- Represent AEP with industrial customers, vendors, and regulators as project assignments require
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Computer Science, or related field, with ten (10) years qualified experience; OR Associate’s degree in the same required disciplines with twelve (12) years qualified experience; OR High School Diploma/GED with fourteen (14) years qualified experience
- Qualified experience in project management, major construction field experience, project estimating, project controls, project engineering, and/or comparable internal or external experience in a competitive production environment
- Demonstrated subject matter expert level of successful project management duties, business acumen, and proficiency in all certifying body knowledge areas
- Demonstrated mastery-level PM knowledge in construction safety, negotiations, scope development and control, cost estimating, construction contracting, project controls and reporting, quality control, risk management, and related areas
- PMP certification required unless waived by the organization’s SVP or OPCO President
- Valid state driver's license
- Effective leadership, team building, meeting management, communication, economic analysis, business acumen, strategic planning, risk assessment, prioritization, scope management, technical solution evaluation, contract development and management
- Ability to perform light physical duties, including construction site walkdowns on unstable surfaces and climbing ladders
- Ability to work at homes, offices, power plants, nuclear sites, construction sites, and other AEP locations
- Ability to travel typically 25% or less, potentially up to 50% for short durations
