Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage multiple high-complexity projects or programs in a matrix team environment
  • Provide leadership, direction, training, coordination, and communication throughout project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, control, and closure
  • Manage assigned project activities, plans, schedules, budgets, tools, and staff
  • Apply Waterfall and Agile project management principles and techniques
  • Support and enforce the AEP System Safety Process
  • Manage costs and reallocate funding in a timely manner
  • Communicate project and outage details and status updates
  • Lead planning meetings, project updates, and complex stakeholder presentations
  • Prepare clear written and oral reports
  • Develop relationships with project teams, plant and operating company staff, customers, partners, contractors, vendors, suppliers, regulators, and industry peers
  • Provide guidance, instruction, and training to improve designs, systems, processes, procedures, schedules, and costs
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on assigned projects
  • Represent AEP with industrial customers, vendors, and regulators as required
  • Align projects with AEP project management standards
  • Delegate project tasks, manage deliverables, set team expectations, and hold team members accountable
  • Prioritize and resolve conflicts and elevated issues
  • Evaluate team member capabilities and provide constructive feedback
  • Promote continuous improvement and challenge assumptions
  • Perform work at various AEP locations, including offices, power plants, nuclear sites, and construction sites

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Computer Science, or related field with ten (10) years qualified experience; OR Associate’s degree in the same required disciplines with twelve (12) years of qualified experience; OR High School Diploma/GED with fourteen (14) years of qualified experience
  • Experience in project management, major construction field experience, project estimating, project controls, project engineering, and/or comparable internal or external experience in a competitive production environment
  • Demonstrated subject matter expert level of successful project management duties, business acumen, and demonstrated proficiency in all certifying body knowledge areas
  • Mastery-level project management knowledge in construction safety, negotiations, scope development and control, cost estimating, construction contracting, project controls and reporting, quality control, and risk management
  • PMP certification required unless waived by the organization’s SVP or OPCO President
  • Valid state driver's license
  • Effective leadership, team building, and meeting management
  • Effective and compelling communication and listening skills with stakeholders
  • Economic analysis techniques and business acumen in project decision-making
  • Working knowledge of project management tools and techniques
  • Strategic thinking, planning, risk assessment, and prioritization
  • Proficiency in scope management, evaluation of technical solutions, and project risk management
  • Proficiency in contract development and management
  • Ability to perform light physical duties, including construction site walkdowns on unstable surfaces and climbing ladders
  • Ability to work at homes, offices, power plants, nuclear sites, and construction sites
  • Ability to travel typically 25% or less, and up to 50% for short durations
