About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Provide technical direction and oversight of plant-level engineering matters across the generation fleet
Coordinate with AEP’s central engineering organization to implement standards, design bases, best practices, and technical requirements
Provide training and oversight to operations staff
Troubleshoot operational issues and lead root cause analysis
Coordinate third-party technical support
Develop and implement the generation organization’s technical vision and strategic direction
Direct plant-level engineering activities and support Plant Managers
Evaluate and implement new technologies, equipment, and vendor solutions
Drive modernization and digital transformation initiatives
Develop annual work plans, capital projects, resource forecasts, Asset Health Reports, and long-term investment plans
Promote safety, health, environmental, quality control, and continuous improvement programs
Recruit, develop, and retain plant engineering staff and implement training programs
Manage technical specifications, scopes of work, quality control, accountability, cost effectiveness, and service quality for contractors and vendors

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field
Minimum of 12 years of progressive engineering experience within power generation
At least 4 years of leadership or management experience
Technical expertise in generation systems, including fossil, renewable, or multi-technology fleets
Strategic and business leadership capabilities
Financial and operational acumen
Change leadership and innovation mindset
Talent development and team leadership skills
Cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder engagement
Master’s degree preferred
Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification preferred
Ability to travel up to 25% to generation facilities
Ability to work in industrial environments with exposure to standard plant conditions
