About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide technical direction and oversight of plant-level engineering matters across the generation fleet
  • Coordinate with AEP’s central engineering organization to implement standards, design bases, best practices, and technical requirements
  • Provide training and oversight to operations staff
  • Troubleshoot operational issues and lead root cause analysis
  • Coordinate third-party technical support
  • Develop and implement the generation organization’s technical vision and strategic direction
  • Direct plant-level engineering activities and support Plant Managers
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies, equipment, and vendor solutions
  • Drive modernization and digital transformation initiatives
  • Develop annual work plans, capital projects, resource forecasts, Asset Health Reports, and long-term investment plans
  • Promote safety, health, environmental, quality control, and continuous improvement programs
  • Recruit, develop, and retain plant engineering staff and implement training programs
  • Manage technical specifications, scopes of work, quality control, accountability, cost effectiveness, and service quality for contractors and vendors

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field
  • Minimum of 12 years of progressive engineering experience within power generation
  • At least 4 years of leadership or management experience
  • Technical expertise in generation systems, including fossil, renewable, or multi-technology fleets
  • Strategic and business leadership capabilities
  • Financial and operational acumen
  • Change leadership and innovation mindset
  • Talent development and team leadership skills
  • Cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder engagement
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification preferred
  • Ability to travel up to 25% to generation facilities
  • Ability to work in industrial environments with exposure to standard plant conditions
