About the role

  • Provide expert accounting services to support development and execution of regulatory strategy across the AEP system
  • Manage regulatory accounting projects supporting operating company regulatory activities
  • Interact and communicate with various parties to regulatory proceedings; present written and oral testimony before regulatory commissions
  • Provide accounting instructions to other accounting departments following regulatory proceedings
  • Keep accounting management informed regarding regulatory activities and implications
  • Monitor regulatory commission proceedings and legislative developments for accounting implications
  • Support operating company recovery strategy and decision-making through accounting analysis and research
  • Query accounting general ledger and subledger systems; organize and summarize accounting data for regulatory reporting
  • Prepare and sponsor accounting exhibits and schedules for regulatory filings; manage responses to interrogatories during discovery and rebuttal
  • Research GAAP (FASB ASC 980), FERC accounting rules, and commission decisions; prepare accounting memos documenting conclusions and disclosure considerations
  • Develop, create, modify, and manage regulatory accounting models for specific regulatory mechanisms
  • Draft and review regulatory disclosures for SEC Form 10-K/10-Q and support annual external financial statement audit

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related business field
  • Minimum 6 years of general accounting experience or 4 years directly related to regulatory accounting or other regulatory activities
  • CPA preferred
  • Some travel required
  • Overtime expected at times during the processing of cases and quarter-end financial reporting
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in leveraging technology to support completion of deliverables
  • Experience presenting written and oral testimony before regulatory commissions
  • Knowledge of GAAP and FASB ASC 980 (Regulated Operations)
  • Knowledge of FERC accounting rules, including the FERC Uniform System of Accounts
  • Experience preparing accounting memos, regulatory disclosures (SEC Form 10-K/10-Q), and supporting external financial statement audits
  • Ability to query accounting general ledger and subledger systems and prepare accounting exhibits/schedules
  • Experience managing regulatory accounting projects and responses to interrogatories
