About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Collects and abstracts data from patient medical records, especially those related to stroke care.
  • Ensures the accuracy and completeness of the abstracted data.
  • Adheres to specific clinical data abstraction guidelines and standards, such as those set by the American Heart Association.
  • Enters the abstracted data into a database or registry, often using specialized software. This includes maintaining and updating the data as necessary.
  • Participates in quality assurance processes to ensure data integrity.
  • Remains informed about developments in stroke care and data management to ensure ongoing competency in the role.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • At least 2 years of recent GWTG STK and/or CSTK abstraction experience.
  • Ability to independently abstract GWTG STK and/or CSTK cases using registry specifications and clinical documentation.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare quality reporting, registry abstraction, clinical documentation review, and medical record interpretation.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, documentation, and follow-through.
  • Comfort working in multiple EHRs, registry platforms, vendor tools, and data collection systems as assigned.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Contractors must have high-speed secure internet, a PC or laptop, and at least two monitors.
  • Preferred: Experience using the GWTG registry platform, CSTK abstraction tools, vendor platforms, quality reporting system, and/or related data collection tools.
  • Experience with IRR, QA review, audit validation, and/or abstraction accuracy review.
