About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Plan and execute a comprehensive grassroots advocacy program across an assigned geography
- Attract, develop, maintain, and engage volunteer leaders
- Develop and implement grassroots strategies and campaign plans for local, state, and federal legislative priorities
- Support volunteers in achieving ACS CAN fundraising goals
- Develop local and state advocacy campaigns and support federal campaigns and congressional champion building
- Organize volunteers for federal activities with national teams
- Write and disseminate volunteer emails, legislative alerts, issue talking points, and training curriculum
- Plan and manage Cancer Action lobby days and similar virtual or in-person events
- Maintain ACS CAN web pages, Facebook pages, and other social media accounts
- Identify and develop volunteers with personal stories related to policy campaigns
- Manage the volunteer structure in the assigned geography and fill vacancies
- Coordinate campaign activities with coalition partners and regional and national teams
- Lead electoral activity through Cancer Votes while meeting legal and reporting requirements
- Attract, train, develop, recognize, and communicate with volunteers
- Facilitate grassroots advocacy and relationships with elected officials and their staff
- Conduct volunteer and ACS staff training
- Maintain volunteer information in databases such as Salesforce
- Drive volunteer fundraising and support fundraising events and programs
- Travel within the assigned state to support campaigns, meetings, and stakeholders; attend occasional national conferences or headquarters events
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree
- Minimum of three years of relevant work experience
- Political issues or campaign organizing experience strongly preferred
- Experience attracting, developing, and engaging volunteers preferred
- Fundraising experience is a plus
- Experience using Salesforce, Every Action, or similar tools is a plus
- Experience or familiarity with fundamentals of Direct Action Organizing is a plus
- Strong written, oral, interpersonal, computer, and social media skills required
- Highly organized orientation and time management skills required
- Ability to handle multiple projects and work independently with minimum direction and as a member or leader of a team
- Ability to work on fast-paced, time-sensitive matters with internal and external constituents
- Ability to establish, hold meetings, and maintain effective working relationships with state and federal legislative officials
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals and communities
- Ability to complete work in multiple venues and state political environments accurately and efficiently
- Ability to utilize available technology to perform position responsibilities
- Ability to travel by car, train, or plane as needed
- Ability to travel up to 20%, including overnight and occasional weekend travel
