About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, develop, and orchestrate modern data pipelines and integrations using Azure Data Factory, Snowflake, dbt, Prefect.io, or Airflow
- Implement, administer, monitor, optimize, and manage cloud-based data infrastructure in Microsoft Azure, including Cosmos DB and Snowflake
- Develop and deploy advanced data engineering solutions using Python within CI/CD pipelines with unit testing and peer code reviews
- Integrate data from internal and external systems using FiveTran, Rivery.io, or OpenFlow
- Collaborate with analytics engineers, data scientists, researchers, and business stakeholders to design and refine data models
- Support data governance, security, access control, compliance, and documentation, including Snowflake user and instance management
- Enable advanced analytics, machine learning, visualization, and research insights across the American Cancer Society
- Travel occasionally, approximately 10–15%, for department or project meetings, vendor management, or enterprise workshops
- Be available after hours, weekends, and holidays as needed for on-call duties and job responsibilities
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Computational Biology, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of relevant work experience
- 3+ years building modern data pipelines, including ETL, cloud storage, reporting, and deployment
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Azure data engineering, including Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, and Cosmos DB
- Experience with Snowflake data warehousing and administration
- Strong expertise in SQL and Python
- Experience developing complex ETL/ELT workflows, automation scripts, and performance-optimized data transformations
- Hands-on experience with Prefect.io, Apache Airflow, FiveTran, Rivery.io, or OpenFlow
- Experience implementing CI/CD practices, automated testing, code reviews, version control, and deployment pipelines
- Experience designing and managing large-scale, high-density structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data systems, including genomics, imaging, and biospecimen datasets
- Familiarity with Power BI, Tableau, or Looker
- Understanding of healthcare and research data domains, including claims, EHR, survey, and clinical datasets
- Knowledge of data governance, compliance, and privacy standards such as HIPAA
- Ability to collaborate with data scientists, analytics engineers, and researchers
- Availability to work after hours, weekends, and holidays as needed for on-call duties
- Occasional travel availability of 10–15%
