About the role

  • Supervise, mentor, and train a team of Property Accounting team members.
  • Ensure internal accounting standards and control processes align with American Campus Community goals and GAAP.
  • Review, coordinate and complete preparation of accurate books and records for owned and third party managed properties.
  • Manage consolidated portfolio reconciliations, create reconciliation workbooks, and improve reconciliation efficiencies.
  • Oversee timely and accurate completion of property close folders, property financials, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Perform review functions during end of month close of property financials and consolidated reconciliations.
  • Work with Property Accounting leaders to allocate and prioritize team functions and responsibilities.
  • Assist Financial Operations and other departments with information requests and questions.
  • Manage special projects and drive process changes for greater efficiencies.
  • Consult with Accounting leadership on technical accounting matters and coordinate audit requests.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to internal accounting and control processes.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, training, appraising, rewarding and disciplining employees.
  • Serve as an American Campus representative and liaison in all interactions.
  • Comply with Photo, Video and Voice Recording Policy for certain activities.

Requirements

  • 5+ years related public accounting, and/or related professional experience required.
  • 2+ years professional management experience preferred.
  • Big 4 accounting firm experience preferred.
  • Experience with general ledger and fixed asset accounting.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting and/or Finance required.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
  • Knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley.
  • Accounting software and/or systems.
  • Effective written & verbal communication.
  • Problem solving and teamwork.
  • Cross organization collaboration.
  • Administration and organization.
  • Project management.
  • Time management.
  • Interpersonal collaboration.
  • Consolidation and multi-entity financial statements.
  • Analytical strategic conceptualization and consulting.

  • Supervisory experience including interviewing, hiring, training, performance management.
