About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct onshore and offshore assessments of safety-critical equipment, systems, and documentation on energy installations
- Provide regulatory guidance and verification services across oil & gas and renewable energy sectors
- Act as ABS’s professional specialist for verification activities
- Perform routine verification examinations on units for which ABS is the Independent Verification Body
- Prepare technically accurate and timely examination reports
- Engage with clients to resolve problems and assist with developing and maintaining verification documentation
- Maintain orderly and up-to-date verification files within the area of responsibility
Requirements
What you’ll need- HNC, HND, degree in an engineering discipline, or equivalent recognized experience
- Membership of a recognized Professional Institution or Engineering Council preferred
- Demonstrable experience in a similar position or verification-type role advantageous
- English proficiency commensurate with statutory certification and services and future work assignments
- BOSIET, MIST, and ATEX qualifications preferable
- Understanding of Offshore Installations (Offshore Safety Directive) Regulations, 2013/30/EU Offshore Safety Directive, and associated legislation
- Knowledge of goal-setting legislative regimes, major hazard management, and risk assessment techniques
- Understanding of unit-specific major accident hazards, safety and environmental critical element performance standards, and verification activities
- Understanding of plant isolatable inventories, incident escalation pathways, and prevention, control, and mitigation barriers
- Awareness of process safety and integrity management principles, engineering standards, and specifications
- Relevant plant knowledge and understanding of operational status and plant conditions
- Ability to apply Operational Risk Assessments (ORA) processes and methodology
- Understanding of SECE impairment rule sets
- Understanding of site emergency response plans and procedures
- Ability to develop working knowledge of ABS Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, related instructions, and ABS Employee Safety Policy
- Ability to read engineering plans and basic understanding of oil and gas practices and installation operations
- Ability to perform examinations in the prescribed format
- Ability to develop working knowledge of relevant computer programs or software packages
- Knowledge of installation systems and machinery
- Ability to communicate pertinent technical information orally and in writing
- Ability to analyze problems and propose solutions
- Responsiveness to customers
- Ability to work well with others
