About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Under the supervision of an experienced engineer or engineering manager, performs detailed engineering review of ship structural plans and stability analyses as assigned for compliance with applicable Rules, Regulations, and contract commitments.
- Prepared first principal calculations using computer-aided engineering tools to predict the structural integrity of the vessel.
- Perform classical stress calculations, finite element stress analysis, and fatigue analysis.
- Use of finite element modeling techniques, primarily FEMAP for finite element model development and NASTRAN finite element solution.
- Perform Seakeeping Analysis and Structural Dynamic Analysis using ABS DLA/SFA software.
- Prepare technical reports and work with other engineers to find resolutions to problems.
- Maintain the technical quality, content, consistency, continuity, and timeliness of action of all assigned projects to ABS standards.
- Implements and maintains ABS Quality System requirements relative to responsibilities after undergoing ABS Quality System training.
- Prepared calculations by hand or using computer-aided engineering tools to predict the structural integrity of the vessel.
Requirements
What you’ll need- B.S. degree in Civil, Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering or other related disciplines; an M.S. may be preferred.
- 5 to 10 years of related engineering experience in a shipyard, design/consulting office, shipping/oil company, or a classification society.
- Demonstrated computer literacy in engineering software; experience in software related to stability such as GHS, NAPA, or other equivalent software required.
- Demonstrated experience in performing stability analyses in accordance with relevant Rules and Regulations.
- Exposed to Finite Element Method (course work or supervised research).
