Senior Engineer I
American Bureau of Shipping (ABS)Senior Engineer I leading design reviews and projects at ABS, ensuring high-quality engineering outcomes. Overseeing engineering staff and managing client relations in complex engineering tasks.
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provides day-to-day leadership of Engineering staff assigned.
- Assigns projects to Engineers and monitors the progress of all assigned projects.
- Ensures the delivery of high-quality service and maintenance of good customer relations.
- Devises new approaches to problems encountered.
- Monitors the technical quality, content, consistency, continuity, and timeliness of action of all assigned projects.
- Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of technical responsibility.
- Performs engineering reviews and analyses when necessary.
- Participates in the development and changes of Rules.
- Prepares written responses to clients.
- Maintains liaison with other engineering specialists internally and externally.
- Monitors the performance, development potential, and training needs of engineers assigned.
- Develops or assists in the development of qualification statements, proposals, bids, and other presentation materials.
Requirements
What you’ll need- B.S. degree in Civil, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, or other related disciplines; an M.S. is preferred
- Graduate from University and a minimum of five (5) years of related experience
- B.S. degree in Marine, Piping, Fire-Fighting or Mechanical Engineering or other related disciplines
- At least ten (10) years of related engineering experience in a shipyard, design/consulting office, shipping/oil company, or a classification society; or two (2) years as an Engineer II.
- Seagoing engineering license or professional/chartered engineer license.
- Advanced practical industry-related experience.
- Knowledge of related technical disciplines.
- Knowledge of applicable Rules and Regulations and the impact of Rule applications and interpretations.
- Knowledge of company business policies and procedures.
- Human relations skills necessary to maintain positive client contacts and provide leadership and motivation to subordinate staff and peers.
- Ability to identify, analyze and solve complex or unique engineering problems.
- Ability to undertake short- and long-term planning to provide for efficient and effective scheduling of work assignments.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing.
- Ability to obtain a working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Systems.
