About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Supervise, monitor, coach, and advise operating and management personnel on company safety policies, procedures, and programs
  • Provide leadership to improve company safety performance and drive safety toward top-decile performance levels
  • Drive personal accountability for safety across the business segment
  • Assist operating groups with planning, conducting, and evaluating safety meetings
  • Support employee safety committees
  • Interpret federal and state safety regulations and recommend compliance methods
  • Conduct field safety observations, identify potential risks, and communicate follow-up actions
  • Provide positive and constructive safety coaching
  • Assist with analysis of safety-related incidents to prevent recurrence
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze statistical data to identify trends and improvement opportunities
  • Assist in developing and administering injury and illness prevention and hazard recognition programs
  • Assist in administering safety recognition programs
  • Lead safety projects and initiatives addressing high-risk areas or injury experience
  • Collaborate with Customer Operations safety personnel on materials and products for operating groups
  • Provide support during outages, storms, and emergencies, including extended hours, weekends, holidays, and travel

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Safety or a related field
  • Five or more years of safety-related experience required
  • Senior level: bachelor's degree with five or more years of experience, or master's degree in Safety or a related field with three or more years of experience
  • Thorough knowledge of regulatory safety standards
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other safety-related certification preferred
  • Advanced degree in Safety preferred
  • Ability to prioritize and self-direct work with little direct supervision
  • Ability to participate in a geographically dispersed team environment
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and human relations skills
  • Ability to support major storm response activities involving long hours over multiple days and travel outside the supported territory
  • Ability to work occasional overtime, including evenings and weekends, and undertake overnight travel
