About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Inspects, services and repairs light vehicles, snowmobiles and equipment according to schedule
- Uses diagnostic procedures and test equipment to identify and correct equipment faults
- Maintains detailed and accurate records on inspections completed and work performed
- Operates shop equipment including welders, compressors, presses and wheel alignment equipment
- Performs preventative maintenance, repairs and service
- Operates recovery vehicle and performs recovery functions, sometimes outdoors in extreme environmental conditions
- Performs quality work in a timely manner and accurately records that work
- Complies with all Environmental Safety and Health and Quality Assurance requirements and goals
- Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority
- Performs other duties as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School diploma or equivalent
- Technician Level I: A minimum of two years’ experience in vehicle maintenance and repair
- Technician Level II: A minimum of four years’ experience in vehicle maintenance and repair required; or three years’ experience with maintenance and repair in addition to one summer or winter Antarctic deployment working as a light vehicle technician I
- Technician Level III: A minimum of seven years’ experience in vehicle maintenance and repair
- Must have strong written and verbal communication skills
- Must be able to pass an oral examination consisting of 10+ questions pertaining to mechanical systems, electrical and computer systems, as well as other facets of equipment repair (only required for Level 3)
- Preferred: A minimum of one season experience working on vehicles in Antarctica highly preferred
- Two years training at a technical school
- Car dealership experience on a broad range of vehicles, specifically Ford
- Previous experience with remote polar operations
- ASE certifications, and dealership certifications a plus.
