About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Implement AltaMed’s Civic Engagement mission, guiding principles, and priorities
  • Increase the footprint, visibility, amplification, and scalability of AltaMed’s Integrated Civic Engagement Model (ICEM)
  • Collaborate with the AVP and department leadership to set civic engagement strategy and goals
  • Lead the civic engagement team and provide guidance and leadership
  • Develop, foster, and sustain strategic partnerships with internal departments, organizational leaders, community stakeholders, CBOs, funders, state and national partners, and thought leaders
  • Implement ICEM across all clinic sites
  • Maintain consistent communication with medical and clinic leadership
  • Develop a civic engagement curriculum for internal employee engagement, including providers, residents, nurses, and new-hire orientations
  • Ensure grant-funded work is completed on time, effectively, and within budget
  • Submit monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to funders and for internal and external publication and dissemination
  • Represent the AVP and AltaMed at stakeholder, coalition, and partner meetings, conferences, panels, webinars, and trainings
  • Develop quarterly goals with direct reports and the AVP aligned with organizational priorities
  • Prepare communications including letters to legislators, public comment letters, written testimonies, client vignettes, newsletters, get-out-the-vote campaigns, fact sheets, FAQs, voter guides, and voter education materials
  • Track and report campaign activities, contacts, engagement, and voter mobilization outcomes
  • Work with external academic institutions on campaign efficacy and impact reports
  • Manage and track civic engagement grant and allocated budgets with the AVP
  • Identify funding opportunities supporting civic engagement
  • Expand awareness of AltaMed Action Fund’s 501(c)(4) social welfare mission among California community members and elected officials
  • Engage in legislative and grassroots lobbying, educational voter engagement campaigns, and social welfare advocacy
  • Support AltaMed’s government relations priorities

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • BA/BS in Public Relations, Communications, Government Affairs, Political Science, Public Health, or related area required
  • Minimum 8 years of overall experience related to Civic Engagement, Community Outreach, Campaigns, Voter Education, and Planning or related discipline required
  • Civic engagement subject matter expertise, including the decennial census, redistricting, elections, key partners, innovative models and approaches, theory and practice involving BIPOC voters, and data and trends
  • Experience with public speaking in internal, external CBO, and community engagement settings
  • Experience tailoring content and tone to various audiences
  • Experience leading a team, coalition building, and facilitation
  • Experience in research-informed writing incorporating complex topics
  • Experience managing staff and related partners in a collaborative environment
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with civic and voter engagement work and campaigns
  • Experience leading, planning, and participating in panel discussions with community organizations
  • Experience developing communications across various platforms and tailoring content to different audiences
  • Bilingual abilities and experience working with the Latino community are a plus
  • A master’s degree or combination of education and experience is highly desired
