About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Drive the service-side changes required by cell architecture, including re-architecture and shared libraries
Decompose hundreds of microservices into subsystems with independent lifecycles
Identify and close horizontal scalability gaps across regions, cells, and deployment models
Own the environments application configuration management framework end-to-end
Own services and libraries for private and isolated cloud deployments
Design and implement changes directly in product services while partnering with owning teams
Set architecture patterns and reference implementations for product teams
Make configuration a runtime concern rather than embedding it in service code
Partner with Cloud Platform, SRE, and DevEx on the service/platform boundary
Raise architectural standards and mentor Staff and Senior engineers
Embed AI tooling into day-to-day development for lasting productivity gains

Requirements

What you’ll need

Deep hands-on architecture experience in large microservice estates, at least in the hundreds
Strong in Java and Python, with willingness to contribute to other technology stacks
Track record decomposing large service estates into independently evolving subsystems
Proven experience designing horizontal scalability across regions and independent deployments
Experience with cell-based, multi-tenant, or multi-region architectures
Strong cloud-native background with Kubernetes, containers, and AWS
Experience externalizing configuration and removing environment coupling from application code
Demonstrated ability to land significant changes in code owned by other teams
Record of identifying architectural limits before they become incidents
Ability and desire to design, lead, influence, and deliver ambitious technical roadmaps
Experience with Vespa (nice to have)
Experience with private, isolated, on-premise, or air-gapped deployments (nice to have)
Design and stewardship of shared libraries or internal frameworks used by many teams (nice to have)
