About the role
- Supervise, review, and file FOCUS reports (Form X-17A-5) with FINRA and the SEC
- Monitor net capital levels to ensure required minimums are maintained
- Ensure timely filing of financial statements and supplemental reports, including annual audited financials
- Oversee financial books and records, including general ledger, trial balance, and subsidiary ledgers
- Interpret and apply SEC and FINRA rules, particularly SEC Rule 15c3-1 and 15c3-3
- Ensure compliance with Rule 17a-3 and 17a-4 recordkeeping requirements
- Respond to regulatory inquiries and exams by FINRA, SEC, or other regulatory bodies
- Design and maintain internal controls to safeguard customer and firm assets
- Supervise systems to prevent and detect errors or fraud in financial reporting
- Supervise financial operations, reconciliations, and back office ledger entries
- Oversee clearing and settlement processes and monitor cash and securities movements
- Supervise margin calculations and manage related risk exposure
- Coordinate the annual independent audit and act as liaison to auditors, regulators, and clearing firms
- Advise management on capital adequacy, financing strategies, and financial impacts of new business initiatives
Requirements
- Series 27 Financial and Operations Principal (Series 27) experience or role context implied
- Knowledge and ability to interpret and apply SEC Rule 15c3-1 (Net Capital Rule) and Rule 15c3-3 (Customer Protection)
- Knowledge of Rule 17a-3 and 17a-4 recordkeeping requirements
- Experience supervising, reviewing, and filing FOCUS reports (Form X-17A-5)
- Experience monitoring net capital and maintaining minimum net capital levels
- Experience overseeing financial books and records, general ledger and trial balance
- Experience supervising reconciliations of firm and customer-related bank accounts and back office ledger
- Experience with clearing and settlement processes and custody rules
- Experience supervising margin calculations and risk exposure
- Experience coordinating independent audits and liaising with auditors, regulators, and clearing firms
- Ability to supervise financial operations and partner with Operations and Finance teams
- Comfortable working 100% distributed and remote and reporting to the CFO
