About the role
- Manage all aspects of insurance defense litigation from case inception to verdict, including initial case assessment, discovery, depositions, motion practice, pre-trial negotiations, courtroom advocacy, and post-trial motions
- Gather and organize documents, evidence, and legal research for hearings, trials, arbitrations, mediations, and depositions
- Conduct legal research on relevant laws, regulations, and case precedents; prepare summaries and reports
- Prepare and draft pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and other legal documents
- Interview clients and witnesses; draft summaries of their statements and maintain communication records
- Attend court hearings, depositions, and other legal proceedings; may represent the company or clients in routine matters
- Monitor changes in laws and regulations and assist in updating the legal team on potential impacts to ongoing cases
- Participate in training sessions and mentorship programs to develop legal skills and gain exposure to more complex legal work
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate and active membership in good standing with the Virginia State Bar
- Entry-level to early career experience in trial advocacy
- Successful completion of courses focused on legal research, writing, and analysis
- Strong time management skills and ability to balance multiple tasks and deadlines
- Ability to organize case files, manage legal documents, and understand the discovery process
- Skilled in client communication, interview summaries, and record-keeping
- Knowledge of legal ethics and standards of professional conduct
- Fundamental negotiation techniques and settlement strategies
- Must be within a commutable distance to courthouses throughout Northern Virginia (Loudoun County, Alexandria City, Arlington County, Fairfax County, Prince William County)
- Willingness to submit to a background investigation
