About the role

  • Manage all aspects of insurance defense litigation from case inception to verdict, including initial case assessment, discovery, depositions, motion practice, pre-trial negotiations, courtroom advocacy, and post-trial motions to ensure favorable outcomes for clients.\n
  • Gather and organize documents, evidence, and legal research for cases, including preparation for hearings, trials, arbitrations, mediations, and depositions.\n
  • Conduct legal research on relevant laws, regulations, and case precedents; prepare summaries and reports.\n
  • Prepare and draft pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and other legal documents.\n
  • Interview clients and witnesses, as well as drafting summaries of their statements and maintaining communication records.\n
  • Attend court hearings, depositions, and other legal proceedings to observe and assist as needed; may represent the company or clients in routine matters.\n
  • Monitor changes in laws and regulations, and assist in updating the legal team on potential impacts to ongoing cases.\n
  • Participate in training sessions and mentorship programs to develop legal skills and gain exposure to more complex legal work.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates strong time management skills, effectively balancing multiple tasks and deadlines.\n
  • Capable of organizing case files, managing legal documents, and understanding the discovery process.\n
  • Skilled in communicating with clients, preparing summaries, and maintaining records of interactions.\n
  • Well-versed in legal ethics and the standards of professional conduct.\n
  • Equipped with fundamental negotiation techniques and strategies for client interactions and settlement discussions.\n
  • Must be commutable distance to courthouses throughout the greater Greenbelt, Maryland area.
