About the role

  • Handle no-fault, bodily injury, and property damage insurance defense lawsuits, including trials, arbitrations, and mediations.
  • Manage all aspects of litigation from case inception to verdict: assessment, discovery, depositions, motion practice, pre-trial negotiations, courtroom advocacy, and post-trial motions.
  • Gather and organize documents, evidence, and legal research; prepare for hearings, trials, arbitrations, mediations, and depositions.
  • Conduct legal research on laws, regulations, and precedents; prepare summaries and reports.
  • Prepare and draft pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and other legal documents.
  • Interview clients and witnesses; draft summaries and maintain communication records.
  • Attend court hearings, depositions, and legal proceedings; may represent the company or clients in routine matters.
  • Monitor changes in laws and regulations and update the legal team on impacts to ongoing cases.
  • Provide counsel to business clients and coordinate between legal teams.
  • Participate in training sessions and mentorship programs to develop legal skills and exposure to complex legal work.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate and active membership in good standing with the California State Bar.
  • Successful completion of courses focused on legal research, writing, and analysis.
  • Strong time management skills; ability to balance multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Ability to organize case files, manage legal documents, and understand the discovery process.
  • Skilled in communicating with clients, preparing summaries, and maintaining records of interactions.
  • Well-versed in legal ethics and standards of professional conduct.
  • Equipped with fundamental negotiation techniques and strategies for client interactions and settlement discussions.
  • Experience or ability to handle insurance defense litigation including no-fault, bodily injury, and property damage cases (trials, arbitrations, mediations).
