About the role

  • Design end-to-end procurement and supply chain operating model, including policies, governance, and controls.
  • Recommend and configure a fit-for-purpose ERP/procurement solution (Odoo) to support procurement, warehousing, fleet, and logistics.
  • Establish vendor management and sourcing strategies to manage high-volume equipment procurement (poles, meters, transformers).
  • Assess existing warehousing facilities and fleet operations and design an optimised national rollout strategy.
  • Define warehouse layout, equipment requirements, safety procedures, and inventory control systems.
  • Develop durable logistics processes to support 100+ vehicles and dispersed field teams nationwide.
  • Develop a practical 12–18 month implementation roadmap with clear milestones.
  • Mentor the Head of Supply Chain and junior staff to strengthen capabilities and embed best practices.
  • Document systems, procedures, and policies to ensure long-term sustainability.
  • Report to Senior Management and support delivery of a landmark electrification public-private partnership in Burundi.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10–15 years of procurement and supply chain management experience.
  • Proven expertise in designing and implementing procurement and logistics systems in logistics-heavy sectors (utilities, telecoms, water, infrastructure, or similar).
  • Experience working in emerging or resource-constrained environments; Africa experience strongly preferred but not mandatory.
  • Strong track record in developing warehousing and fleet management systems.
  • ERP/technology experience, ideally with Odoo or similar platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to design procurement policies, vendor strategies, and compliance systems.
  • Pragmatic and hands-on problem-solving.
  • Excellent communicator and mentor, capable of guiding junior staff on the ground.
  • Resilient mindset suited to high-pressure, next-phase scale-up environments.
  • Bilingual fluency in English and French is mandatory.
  • Willingness/ability to be based in Burundi; candidates locally or regionally who can meaningfully relocate will be considered.
  • Ability to travel primarily within Burundi and occasionally regionally.
  • Start date: ASAP; Contracting period: ~6 months.
