About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Provide Basic Life Support (BLS) patient care consistent with the West Virginia EMT Scope of practice and applicable EMS protocols
Perform comprehensive patient assessments and formulate appropriate treatment plans
Perform advanced airway management, pharmacological interventions, defibrillation, and other BLS procedures authorized by protocol and credentialing
Initiate and maintain appropriate medical treatments, including medication administration and monitoring
Provide medical care during 911 emergency responses, interfacility transports, and specialty transports consistent with agency credentialing and transport requirements
Obtain medical direction when required by protocol or clinical judgment
Continuously monitor patient condition and adjust care as appropriate
Communicate patient condition and treatment information to receiving facilities

Requirements

What you’ll need

Possession of a high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
National Registry of EMTs Emergency Medical Technician registration to be renewed every two (2) years
West Virginia Office of EMS EMT Certification to be obtained within one (1) month of hire and renewed every two years
Valid Driver’s License with driving record acceptable by motor vehicle insurance carrier
Minimum of two (2) years of driving experience
Emergency Vehicle Operator Safety (EVOS) certification or obtain within one (1) month of hire and renewed every four (4) years
Valid BLS for Healthcare Providers (or equivalent) certification or obtain within one (1) month of hire and renewed every two (2) years
Emergency pediatric Care (EPC) certification or obtain within three (3) months of hire and renewed every four (4) years
West Virginia Office of EMS Blood Endorsement (Assistant) or obtain within one (1) year of hire and renewed annually
Successful completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) or obtain within (1) month of hire
Unencumbered ability to practice Emergency Medical Services within the State of WV
