About the role
- Drive all Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) activities at the manufacturing facility as an individual contributor
- Partner with management and frontline leaders; engage employees and participate in Gemba, MDI, and other business activities
- Lead EHS inspections, audits, and perform EHS observations
- Analyze and maintain EHS recordkeeping systems and data trend analyses
- Conduct EHS training for employees, visitors, and contractors; maintain attendance and training records
- Lead safety teams, first responder meetings, and assume leadership during committee activities
- Ensure prompt communication of incidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, and EHS concerns to all management levels
- Lead incident investigations, root cause determinations, and assist in corrective and preventive action implementation
- Perform risk assessments and prioritize/complete risk reduction activities
- Track corrective and preventive action findings to closure
- Direct emergency response planning and response; provide training and schedule/facilitate drills
- Review new or modified processes, procedures, equipment, facilities and chemical/physical agents and recommend controls
- Prepare and review specifications/orders for EHS equipment and ensure compliance with EHS standards
- Interact with other Allegion EHS teams; engage in EHS calls, meetings, Kaizens, and ergonomic/machine guarding/LOTO activities
- Lead and support other EHS projects and initiatives; maintain professional development and stay current in the field
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental health & safety, business, or manufacturing/engineering
- 3+ years of experience in environmental health and safety in a manufacturing setting
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and teambuilding skills
- Ability to influence without authority (role is not a people leader)
- Proven ability to work effectively with all levels in a matrix organization
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and use sound judgment
- Exceptional project management skills
- Travel outside of assigned location estimated at 5-10%
- Strong knowledge and experience with federal and local environmental, health, and safety agency regulations and compliance requirements
- Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States; company will not sponsor employment visas
- Preferred: Professional certification or designation (CSP, CIH, CHMM, or CEM)
- Preferred: Application knowledge of International Building Code, FM Global, and NFPA standards
- Preferred: ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 or OHSAS 18001 experience
