About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop best-in-class construction management policies, procedures, tools, and best practices
  • Develop and implement a robust training and accountability program across regions
  • Oversee and support teams leading major colocation and hyperscale construction programs
  • Direct day-to-day operations and long-term strategic direction of regional construction projects
  • Lead 2–8 direct reports and manage regional Construction Management team performance
  • Drive projects from inception through customer or business turnover, including preconstruction, construction, commissioning, and closeout
  • Coordinate with Design Management, engineering, procurement, operations, sales, legal, finance, and other cross-functional teams
  • Develop relationships with general contractors, trade partners, design partners, AHJs, suppliers, and vendors
  • Manage project budgets, cost data, scopes of work, cost forecasts, contracts, subcontracts, and change orders
  • Direct up to 25+ external vendors per project
  • Ensure quality, specification, schedule, internal control, and contract administration requirements are met
  • Inspect work in place and work in progress
  • Interview, hire, train, evaluate, mentor, and develop staff
  • Report project and departmental status, challenges, successes, metrics, and action plans to management
  • Interface with customers through fit-out design, construction, and integration
  • Support continuous improvement, creativity, efficiency, and innovation in project delivery

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • At least 5 years of direct oversight team management experience
  • 12+ years of progressive experience managing commercial construction projects or programs
  • Data center experience required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent
  • Deep network within the data center design and construction community
  • Ability to navigate Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), including local zoning, permitting, and inspection authorities
  • Experience with lean construction methodologies and tools
  • Thorough understanding of IPD, Design-Build, and Design-Bid-Build project delivery methods
  • Thorough understanding of lump sum, CM at risk, and open book GMP contract methods
  • Experience as a senior leader accountable for major construction project delivery at a general contractor or MEP trade partner
  • Experience with data center design and engineering, especially MEP systems
  • Experience with project management software such as MS Projects, Prolog, Procore, BIM 360, or similar
  • Advanced experience in Excel, Smartsheets, and/or AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of construction cost estimating methods and scope-of-work development
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Ability to monitor design and schedule changes and forecast their impact on project costs
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational, time management, and change management skills
  • Track record of mentoring and developing teams and individuals
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality
  • Ability to meet reporting, communication, and project schedule deadlines
  • Ability to understand and follow clear directions
  • Ability to multitask
  • May travel up to 25%
