About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Build agent patterns, retrieval, and guardrails for agentic assistants serving Alight participants
Build an MCP server that serves a skills registry to AI coding agents in the IDE
Develop reusable LangGraph agent patterns for multi-agent orchestration, memory, tool-use safety, and guardrails
Build an agent evaluation platform using DeepEval and Ragas with CI/CD quality gates
Develop document ingestion and retrieval pipelines including chunking, embedding, vector search, reranking, and citations
Automate CI/CD and AWS deployment for AI agents using ECS, Fargate, and Agent Core
Build AI-enabled devcontainers with integrated tooling, validation, and testing
Instrument production workloads with OpenTelemetry and build dashboards for LLM cost and token tracking
Convert governance controls into pipeline checks with automated evidence collection
Implement semantic caching, rate limiting, and graceful degradation for agent workloads
Create reference implementations, SDK and CLI tooling, and documentation for other engineers
Help power AI delivery across Alight, whose platform supports health, wealth, wellbeing, navigation, and absence-management services for more than 30 million people

Requirements

What you’ll need

Python proficiency (3.10+), the team’s primary language
Working knowledge of core AWS services, including IAM, ECS/Fargate, and networking
Comfort working in cloud-native environments
Software engineering discipline covering Git/GitHub, code review, testing, documentation, and clean code
Security awareness when handling sensitive data, including secrets, permissions, and data protection
Expertise in at least one area: AI agent development; data and retrieval engineering; quality and evaluation; platform and infrastructure; observability and operations; or developer experience
Successful completion of a background check if offered employment
Work authorization in the employing country without current or future visa sponsorship requirements
Ability to conduct virtual interviews on video; Alight is a camera-on culture
Occasional travel to a physical Alight office may be required
