About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Operate compressors, pumps, pulverizers, boilers, turbine generators, switchyard equipment and auxiliary equipment
  • Produce electricity, potable water, smelting steam and high-temperature water for the smelting plant
  • Control electrical power generation to ensure continuous power supply for smelter operations
  • Operate and maintain fuel systems, ash systems and demineralizer systems
  • Monitor and maintain boilers, turbines, electrostatic precipitators, condensate systems, feed water systems and high-voltage switching equipment
  • Perform other essential functions of the Power Plant Operator position
  • Work shifts, including weekends

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3 years of full-time light to heavy industrial or power industry work experience
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work activities
  • Ability to work shifts, including weekends
  • Preferred experience with fuel systems, boilers, turbines, electrostatic precipitators, condensate systems, feed water systems and high-voltage switching
  • Ability to monitor and maintain power plant systems
