About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Driving strategic direction and roadmap for Akamai Compute's customer-facing API and internal backend orchestration and support services
Driving architectural shift of services to container orchestration and modular designs, enabling horizontal scalability and granular component ownership
Establishing mechanisms to audit software lifecycles, enhancing service reliability, improving observability, and ensuring robust security for Akamai Compute
Partnering with Product Management, SRE, Engineering leaders, SDET and various product teams to define requirements, integrate new features, and drive consistent, intuitive user experiences
Fostering a growth-oriented, inclusive, and respectful culture. Mentor Senior and Principal engineers, drive technical leadership, and promote knowledge sharing across the organization

Requirements

What you’ll need

10 years of relevant experience
Bachelor's degree or its equivalent
managing high-performing engineering teams in a cloud-engineering and web services environment
architectural design, particularly with distributed systems, microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and backend service integration
large-scale migrations, such as moving services to containerized orchestration or modularizing legacy systems to support business demand
ensuring security, performance, and reliability in mission-critical environments
ability to communicate openly and respectfully
