About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own AirGarage’s accounting function and lead the monthly close.
- Own revenue recognition, reconciliations, AP/AR, payroll coordination, and financial statement integrity.
- Convert the company to full accrual accounting and implement GAAP revenue recognition.
- Lead migration from QuickBooks to a modern ERP, including selection, implementation, data migration, integrations, and change management.
- Rebuild the chart of accounts for location-level, team-level, and corporate reporting.
- Connect accounting systems with transaction data and operational systems to create a single source of truth.
- Manage indirect tax, parking taxes, regulatory fees, and multi-jurisdiction sales/use tax compliance.
- Establish controls and processes to prepare for the first financial statement audit.
- Manage, mentor, and develop the in-house accounting team.
- Partner with Operations, Sales, and Product on billing, collections, revenue sharing, and reporting accuracy.
- Deliver timely monthly financial statements and supporting schedules to leadership, the board, and investors.
Requirements
What you’ll need- CPA (or equivalent rigor) with strong command of GAAP, especially transactional or marketplace revenue recognition.
- Experience as the senior-most accounting owner—Controller, Assistant Controller, or Director of Accounting—at a venture-backed company during rapid growth.
- Experience leading a migration from QuickBooks to a modern ERP.
- Experience converting cash-basis or hybrid books to full accrual accounting.
- Experience preparing for and completing financial statement audits.
- Ability to work with data teams, data pipelines, and automated system-of-record processes.
- Hands-on accounting operations experience, including close checklists and reconciliations.
- Experience with multi-location, multi-jurisdiction, revenue-share, or payments-heavy businesses.
- Strong accounting judgment, bias for action, and willingness to work hands-on in a lean team.
- Big Four or top regional firm foundation plus startup operating experience strongly preferred.
- Indirect tax, sales tax, regulatory fee, payment processor, marketplace money movement, and modern accounting tools experience strongly preferred.
- Ability to work long hours, including nights and weekends.
- Willingness to travel approximately six weeks per year for offsites, location launches, and in-person onboarding.
- Successful completion of a background check and employment verification required.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship status is addressed in the application.
