About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead the development and refinement of systems powering payments compliance.
Design and build service-oriented, configurable, auditable Compliance systems that leverage existing Airbnb capabilities.
Collaborate with Product, Design, Policy, Operations, and other cross-functional partners to define and ship impactful features.
Partner with other engineering teams to serve users holistically.
Establish technical vision and alignment across engineering and cross-functional teams.
Lead and mentor engineers inside and outside the immediate team.
Advance Airbnb engineering processes and technical foundations.
Drive systemic improvements to streamline development, reduce toil, and increase technical quality and operational excellence.
Build compliance experiences for hosts and guests, including required information collection and management.
Develop systems for screening individuals and businesses against global regulatory requirements.
Implement continuous auditing to verify compliance controls are applied as intended.

Requirements

What you’ll need

9+ years of industry experience in a fast-paced technology environment
BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent work experience
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering teams
Strong problem-solving skills
Experience leading a team on call for production systems
Hands-on experience leading project teams and setting technical direction and strategy
Proficiency in one or more back-end server languages, such as Java, Ruby, Go, or C++
Experience with HTML, CSS, and modern JavaScript frameworks such as React
Exposure to architectural patterns for high-scale web and data applications
Prior regulatory compliance standards knowledge and experience implementing controls (nice to have)
Future-looking approach to building for long-term regulatory needs
End-to-end ownership mentality across team boundaries
