About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support the Fraud & Safety Operations team in proactive defenses and reactive interventions to help keep the community safe
- Support Customer Support escalations, including analysis and advice on matters involving Airbnb policies and policy enforcement
- Assess, manage, and provide legal advice on global legal risks, life safety, law enforcement operations, and related internal investigations
- Advise on and drive cross-functional projects with Fraud & Safety, Global Crisis Management, Community Support, Communications, Community Policy, Public Policy, Privacy, and Hosting teams
- Help manage team resources to align with business priorities and objectives
- Champion Airbnb’s mission, ethics, and integrity
- Support Airbnb’s commitment to a diverse and inclusive workplace free of discrimination and harassment
- Report to the Associate General Counsel, Community Trust
Requirements
What you’ll need- J.D. with strong academic credentials and demonstrated record of success as a senior in-house lawyer, law firm partner, or commensurate federal or state government position
- Member of California Bar or eligible to register as Registered In-House Counsel
- 12–15 years of significant knowledge and experience with litigation, risk mitigation, fraud and safety, law enforcement operations, and global policy application
- Experience with artificial intelligence and machine learning models is a plus
- Outstanding analytical, oral, and writing skills
- Ability to distill complex legal issues efficiently and effectively for a business audience in novel or ambiguous situations
- Highly developed sense of urgency in time-sensitive and high-stakes matters
- Record of entrepreneurial, quick-thinking, pragmatic, business-oriented advice balancing legal risk and business reward
- Ability to take ownership of projects from inception to completion
- Efficient and organized; able to thrive in a fast-paced work environment
- Excellent communication skills and ability to advocate while maintaining a respectful, collaborative, and open-minded approach
- Ability to lead with humility and empathy
- Passion for travel, home sharing, and appreciation for the Airbnb community
- Good sense of humor, disdain for drama, and desire to get things done
- Must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity
