About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide high-quality critical care, including assessment, triage, and treatment, during critical patient transport
- Determine and prioritize care required for safe transport to the appropriate facility
- Provide nursing care from initial contact until handoff to the accepting medical facility
- Maintain thorough patient care documentation and required licensure, certification, education, aviation, safety, OSHA, HIPAA, and clinical training records
- Use and maintain aircraft medical equipment and supplies; report failures and initiate repairs as directed
- Keep aircraft clean and orderly for rapid response
- Attend pre-mission briefings and debriefings; complete required documentation
- Assist with liftoff checklists and pilot support activities, including radio, navigation, and visual observation
- Follow safety standards and conduct aircraft safety briefings as needed
- Provide flight support to neonatal/pediatric personnel and perform approved advanced procedures
- Participate in patient and referring-institution follow-up, outreach marketing, and education activities
- Precept and orient new employees and students as assigned
- Participate in meetings, activities, projects, committees, research, and publishing opportunities
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Minimum three (3) years of recent critical care/emergency nursing experience within the last five years or as required by state/local EMS regulations
- Current RN license(s) for states of practice (MO & IL required)
- EMS or MICN certification/licensure as required by state regulations
- Current Healthcare Provider BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS or equivalent certifications, and TPATC/TNCC/ITLS/PHTLS advanced provider certification if state or county required
- CFRN or CEN specialty certification required within 24 months of hire
- One of TPATC, TNCC, ATCN, TNATC, or CAMTS-approved advanced trauma course before completion of third-rider training
- NRP certification before completion of third-rider orientation
- NIMS Training IS 100, 200, 700, 800, and HazMat before completion of third-rider training
- Maintain weight not to exceed 225 pounds, including empty flight suit and boots
- Skills required to practice nursing under assigned state scope of practice and advanced skills defined by Medical Director(s)
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including overtime and 24/7 on-call rotation
- Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Strong critical thinking, reasoning, attention to detail, communication, presentation, prioritization, and multitasking skills
- Regularly scheduled attendance
