About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Operate Air Methods aircraft in a safe and legal manner
Complete pre-flight inspections and verify aircraft airworthiness before every flight
Perform aircraft walk-arounds before entering the cockpit and after each flight
Hold final authority for aircraft operations and the safety of passengers, cargo, and equipment
Maintain familiarity with aircraft and medical systems of backup aircraft
Ensure the medical flight team is familiar and comfortable with the medical interior and systems
Complete required documentation
Conduct detailed flight planning with little notice to exacting standards
Participate in Air Methods meetings, activities, projects, committees, and community outreach
Transport medical crew and patients to receiving hospitals within the assigned operational area
Ensure compliance with FAR, AIM, GOM guidelines, and Air Methods policies and procedures

Requirements

What you’ll need

Must have flown in category for a commercial operator or in the military within the previous 24 months
2,500 total flight hours with a minimum of 2,000 hours in category
1,000 hours PIC in category
500 hours cross-country flight time
500 hours Fixed Wing Turbine time
100 hours night flight time
100 hours flight in actual instrument conditions in category
Commercial & Instrument Rating for category and class of aircraft; ATP rating in category meets this requirement
First or Second Class FAA Medical certificate required
Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school and two to five years’ related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Must maintain weight at or below 250 pounds
Must be less than 70 years old
Must maintain regular scheduled attendance on 7 days on/7 days off, 12-hour shifts
Must comply with applicable FAR, AIM, GOM, and Air Methods policies and procedures
Subject to DOT/FAA drug and/or alcohol testing
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues, EMS representatives, hospitals, and the public
