About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Responsible for supporting the organization, direction and administration tasks assigned within a regional area in relationship to overseeing aviation activities and personnel.
  • Ensures all operations within region are compliant with regulations, operations specifications and General Operations Manual.
  • Participates as a member of Air Methods’ management team to promote a successful operation.
  • Researches and reports to Director of Operations on FRx budget/actual variances
  • Ensures completion of aviation management portions of Base Startup, Closure and Movement Manual.
  • Provides tactical management of the integration of aircraft, assuring availability and trained pilots in support of operational requirements.
  • Attends or delegates attendance to fleet status teleconferences (KPI Dashboard).
  • Coordinates pilot training in conjunction with the Pilot Training team for the area.
  • Coordinates with Regional Safety Director on safety related issues while providing technical and professional assistance to eliminate or control unsafe behaviors in coordination with Area Manager.
  • Assists in the Investigation of aviation mishaps and in performing a root cause analysis upon request.
  • Submits all required reporting regarding flight personnel to the Regional Aviation Director.
  • Monitors the behaviors and performance of aviation personnel to assure they comply with Air Methods’ policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates with Regional Clinical Managers to schedule and conduct medical crewmember and communication specialist initial and recurrent training. Monitor crewmember Computer Training System (CTS) compliance. Conduct Air Medical Resource Management training.
  • Responsible for conducting or coordinating ferry and MOC flights.
  • Monitors and responds to Accidental, Incident, Damage, Malfunction, Operations Report (AIDMOR) submissions.
  • Acts as the on-scene representative for all accidents/incidents occurring within assigned area coordinated with Area Managers.
  • Educates with pilots the Safety Manage System (SMS) and the Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) program.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, available 24/7 for operational requirements.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university and eight to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in aviation and air medical transports
  • Minimum of 2,500 flight hours
  • Two (2) years of experience in a Part 135 operation.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Professional demeanor and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage and administer a broad range of tasks
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions
  • Ability to prepare written reports and correspondences, and presentations to senior leadership as required
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships internally and externally
  • Maintains and encourages objectivity in assessing or evaluating operations, maintenance, fuel quality, Communication Specialist personnel and the requirement for anonymity with regard to safety matters.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (Airplane or Rotorcraft)
  • Possess a FAA Second Class Medical.
