About the role

  • The Systems Engineer 3 is responsible to ensure complete capture and memorialization of project stakeholder requirements, allocate technical budgets among subsystems, define subsystem interfaces, and create system level CDRL/SDRL’s.
  • Specific areas of ownership include system level requirements and artifacts, and system level Risk / FMECA / SHA documents.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Business Development Team to define, manage, and provide technical leadership to commercial or military projects within the Engineering Department to assure technical project compliance with budget, schedule and performance by leading airframe, subsystem, and component level requirement capture, memorialization, and management processes and tools across mechanical and electrical engineering teams, utilizing a “right-size” approach to ensure efficiency across a wide range of project / program complexity and applications.
  • Interface with customers during project / program initiation to architect subsystems and components.
  • Define, memorialize, and manage system and subsystem interface control documents and requirements in SysML software platform.
  • Collaborate with Project Engineering to facilitate project System Requirements Reviews (SRR) (Feasibility/ Conceptual) to ensure alignment between customer aircraft/ system and internal subsystems.
  • Ensure complete and accurate project specifications throughout project lifecycle.
  • Develops technical quotes to support Engineering Support Requests (ESR) and project requirements.
  • Lead requirement decomposition, including all aspects of 14 CFR and external customer requirements and facilitate decomposition to component and functional levels for both electrical and mechanical subsystems with subsystem Project Engineers, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Certification Engineering teams.
  • Review compliance methodology and verification plans to ensure proper artifact generation.
  • Review risk assessment and requirement prioritization and lead project risk management and including SHA, SSA, FMEA, and FMECA as needed.
  • Support Project Engineering in maintaining projects within budget and schedule milestones by means of strict compliance to documented requirements and impacting any and all change requests.
  • Aid in providing quotes to Project Manager and Marketing as requested by Engineering leadership.
  • Identifies project any/ all specialized staffing and/ or technical requirements by coordinating with engineering and certification leaders and ODA team to help determine project man-loading and technical requirements and synergize associated inputs.
  • Verifies efficacy of engineering team methods of compliance, e.g., substantiations, analysis, and/or design of tests, and oversees and documents testing activities and outcomes.
  • Assists with ODA and Manufacturing testing, as required.
  • Interface with all areas affected by the project including, but not limited to, outside suppliers, test houses (including development of testing SOWs), end users, management, and end customers.
  • Follows up and coordinates with Certification and ODA efforts and tasks to ensure a timely closure of STC projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Aeronautical, Aerospace, Electrical, or Systems or related engineering field from four-year college or university; and 7-10 years’ related industry experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Comprehensive experience working in a high aptitude engineering environment.
  • Professional Engineer and/or Master’s degree (M.S.) in Electrical, Systems, Aeronautical, Aerospace, Engineering Management or related engineering field preferred
  • Demonstrated experience leading successful programs by creating a requirements-based culture utilizing system engineering tools and best practices.
  • Experience decomposing customer / marketing requirements into multidisciplinary engineering requirements
  • Analysis, design and development experience in aviation field preferred
  • Extensive experience working within a phase gate product design process
  • Experience with Safety Hazard Analysis, Failure Modes Effects Analysis, and associated standards: MIL-STD-882E, MIL-STD-1629A, IEC-60812, AS13004
  • Familiarity with reliability analysis (MTBF), planning and testing.
  • Experience working within multiple industry standards, such as DO-160/254/178C IEEE 15288, 27465, 42010, Std 828 ANSI/ AIAA G-043 | ANSI/ EIA 632/ 649B | ANSI/ GEIA-STD-0009 INCOSE systems Engineering Handbook: A Guide for System Life Cycle Process & Activities, 4th ed.
