About the role
- Develop and maintain IMS/application mainframe applications, including batch and online programs, in a COBOL/CICS environment.
- Analyze existing batch programs and translate technical findings and business rules into clear, business-friendly requirements documentation.
- Diagram and document batch program flows to enhance understanding of overall processing logic and dependencies.
- Review and evaluate business systems and user needs, then design software solutions that improve operational efficiency.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and apply industry-standard methodologies to reengineer workflows using technology.
- Read and interpret job schedules in Job Track and document those schedules by program groupings.
- Perform solution analysis, including cost-benefit, ROI, and build-vs.-buy evaluations as applicable.
- Apply knowledge of hierarchical and relational database structures to support application design and maintenance.
- Document user requirements and system functionalities to support ongoing development and modernization initiatives.
- Present research findings in business terms to facilitate requirements development across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent related work experience.
- 5 years of experience developing and maintaining IMS/application mainframe applications in enterprise environments.
- 5 years of experience with CICS and BMS.
- 5 years of hands-on experience with COBOL, CICS, JCL, REXX, ISPF, and File-Aid or a similar product.
- Strong ability to analyze batch programs, document processing flows, and translate technical findings into business-friendly requirements.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 years of hands-on experience with Mark IV.
- 5 years of experience with ISPF and other IBM mainframe utilities.
- 5 years of experience with File-Aid.
- 3 years of experience with Expediter.
- 3 years of experience with JCL.
- 3 years of experience with IMS and VSAM.
- 3 years of experience reading legacy code, identifying embedded business rules, and modifying programs based on user requirements.
- Experience reading Job Track schedules and documenting program groupings and dependencies.
- Oil and Gas industry experience.
- Texas residency is preferred.
