About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Draft and develop both new and updated standard proprietary AIG products, policies, and endorsements across multiple product lines and jurisdictions
- Support the Lead Underwriting Counsel in providing advice to the Office of the Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) on adopting new and updated policies and endorsements
- Develop AIG policies and endorsements based on broker and competitor carrier forms to address client-specific exposures and to promote the use of AIG-preferred wordings in policy placements
- Work closely with GLCR colleagues to address legal, regulatory, and compliance issues related to product development and policy wordings
- Provide advice and insight regarding policies and endorsements used by other market participants
- Ensure underwriting intent is accurately reflected by using clear and unambiguous policy and endorsement wording
- Collaborate with other AIG areas, e.g., Claims, Actuarial, and the Coverage Litigation team, to identify exposure trends related to policy and endorsement wordings and to address those trends in standard policy language
- Drive remediation of existing policies and endorsements, identifying those that should be retired, updated, or replaced
- Act as a liaison, coordinating and driving policy and endorsement drafting and discussions with line-of-business leaders, senior claims executives, and other internal and external stakeholders
- Support the creation and implementation of a comprehensive policy and endorsement repository
- Support the Lead Underwriting Counsel in advising the Office of the CUO on developing guidelines and authorities to facilitate comprehensive product and wordings governance
- Provide policy and endorsement training for AIG colleagues, offering guidance and insight on wording and usage
- Provide input as an advisor on the development of AI-enabled tools to assist with policy wording management and governance
Requirements
What you’ll need- Legal degree and professional qualification required
- Entitlement to practice preferred
- Legal qualification from a French and/or Spanish-speaking jurisdiction preferred
- Fluent business-level French and/or Spanish and fluent business English; additional languages are an advantage
- Demonstrated experience advising senior business partners/clients on complex (re)insurance wordings, coverage, and related insurance transactional matters
- Drafting experience from a (re)insurer, broker, or law firm
- Strong ability to prioritize projects, respond promptly and appropriately, and deliver with excellence in a fast-paced environment
- Exceptional communicator with the ability to distill complex topics into relatable, easy-to-understand concepts for non-lawyers
- Proactive problem solver with a track record of addressing internal and external client needs with fit-for-purpose solutions in a timely manner
- Detail-oriented and focused on developing thorough documentation to support sustainable processes and practices
