About the role
- Generate PDFs using the VA PDFFill library within vets‑api, ensuring fidelity to source data.
- Package PDF, JSON, and metadata into CMP‑compliant envelopes for downstream routing.
- Integrate with DocuSign Government and other third‑party PDF signing/routing tools.
- Submit packets to the Benefits Intake API and validate successful routing to VBMS/Caseflow.
- Implement polling and idempotent retries/backoff to query status and guarantee delivery.
- Diagnose & troubleshoot data/document routing errors with external partner teams.
- Enforce PII retention policies (ephemeral storage), compute MD5/SHA‑256 checksums for audit, and manage secrets securely.
- Integrate or configure CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins) for vets‑api components; add back‑end monitoring tools as needed.
- Ensure compliance with VA security requirements (FedRAMP, NIST 800‑53).
- Automate integration & performance tests to verify reliability at scale.
- Build dashboards & alerts keyed on GUIDs to surface latency, failure modes, and throughput metrics.
Requirements
- 3+ years experience as a software engineer with a focus on front-end frameworks
- Recent experience with React and JavaScript/TypeScript.
- At least one year of experience building products and services within the VA.gov ecosystem, ideally involving digital forms.
- Expertise with the VA Design System.
- Demonstrated self‑management and ownership of your work.
- Demonstrated history of bringing a combination of initiative, pragmatism, creativity and tenacity to solve hard problems.
- Ability to work independently on high complexity tasks, and to collaborate as it makes sense for the problem and the work.
- Deep understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1, Section 508) and automated testing tools (Cypress, Playwright, axe, pa11y).
- Thrive in Agile, self‑organizing environments focused on team success.
- Pragmatic decision‑making skills, bias for action, and a strong sense of experimentation.
- Experience working in a cross-functional team, including research, design, engineering, and product.
- Has lived and worked in the United States for 3 out of the last 5 years.
