About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, develop, and scale AI agents in production, ensuring performance, reliability, and low latency
Build and evolve agent infrastructure (harnesses, orchestration, context and state management)
Architect solutions for multi-agent systems and integration with different tools and data sources
Develop APIs and backend services (e.g., FastAPI/Python) to support intelligent applications
Integrate new data sources and external services (e.g., medical APIs, clinical databases such as PubMed)
Ensure clinical accuracy, safety, and regulatory compliance through testing and verification mechanisms
Implement observability practices (tracing, metrics, logs, and alerts) for production monitoring
Work on performance optimization (latency, throughput, scalability) of the systems
Rapidly prototype new solutions and validate hypotheses before scaling to production
Collaborate with Product and Data Science teams to define solutions and quality metrics
Conduct and participate in code reviews, promoting code quality and the team’s technical growth
Provide technical support to other engineers through mentorship and architectural discussions
Document technical decisions (e.g., ADRs) and contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering practices
Conduct management rituals (1:1s, continuous feedback, performance review cycles, and individual development)
Define and track team goals, connecting technical deliveries to the business’s strategic objectives
Contribute to building and evolving the team, supporting career plans and technical and behavioral development
Identify capacity gaps and support hiring processes together with Talent Acquisition
Promote an engineering culture based on quality, collaboration, ownership, and continuous improvement
Ensure proper allocation of people to projects, balancing operational efficiency and individual development
Mediate conflicts and facilitate communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders
Act as a bridge between strategy and execution, translating leadership direction into clear plans for the team

Requirements

What you’ll need

Strong experience in Software Engineering, with mastery of architecture and design patterns
Deep knowledge of distributed systems (consistency, fault tolerance, CAP theorem)
Experience with API development (REST), versioning, caching, and resilience (circuit breakers, retries)
Mastery of concurrency and parallelism concepts (async, threading, race conditions)
Experience with observability (distributed tracing, metrics, logging, and debugging in production)
Familiarity with building resilient, fault-tolerant systems
Experience with automated testing (unit, integration, and E2E)
Familiarity with developing AI systems and agent concepts (orchestration, multi-agent)
Experience with modern AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Copilot, Cursor, or similar)
Fluency in Portuguese and technical reading in English
Previous experience managing engineering teams (as a tech lead, coordinator, or similar)
Ability to develop people, provide structured feedback, and conduct performance conversations
Experience managing multiple priorities and concurrent projects
Ability to influence decisions and align different stakeholders
Ability to make decisions in complex and ambiguous scenarios, balancing speed and quality
Strong communication and collaboration skills with multidisciplinary teams
