Director

• Leads, focuses, builds, develops, and motivates sector staff in the successful achievement of sector plans, goals and objectives.
• Provides updates and shares information regarding planning, policy, funding, and events.
• Supports the Director with employee relations concerns, performance management and development, recruitment and selection and accommodation processes.
• Builds, develops, and maintains strong and productive networks and relationships with national, regional and community First Nations leaders, specialists, organizations, and communities; and government officials.
• Represents the AFN in various forums and national, regional, and local engagement sessions.
• Supports the Director to align sector activities with political priorities from the National Chief’s Office and resolutions from Chiefs-in-Assembly.
• Supports the Director in the preparation of quality materials for the National Chief’s Office.
• Assists in planning, coordinating, and participating in Chiefs-in-Assembly meetings.
• Supports the Director in the planning, coordination, and implementation of the Sector’s Chief Committee, Technical Committee, and/or Working Group.
• Attends Sector specific Parliamentary Standing Committees and Senate Standing Committees to influence legislative change that will positively impact First Nations.
• Supports the Director to advocate federal government Ministers and officials for funding, policy and legislation changes, and program changes and implementation.
