Key responsibilities & impact

Define frameworks and best practices for operating applications
Build tooling and provide training and consulting
Provide data and visibility on application performance
Guide the development of SLOs
Drive Incident Management and Analysis
Steer Change Management and Deployment practices
Engage in service and architectural conversations
Recommend observability and alerting configurations
Own and deliver quarterly team goals
Lead engineers through ambiguous, open-ended problems and support delivery
Collaborate with infrastructure, product management, developer experience and analytics throughout the product development lifecycle
Identify technical solutions and operational processes that improve incident readiness, response and post-incident analysis
Create and monitor metrics, escalate when needed, and support availability, keep-the-lights-on and on-call efforts
Set or improve code review and design standards and advocate for them through writing and tech talks
Develop team talent through feedback, guidance and leading by example
Participate in the required on-call rotation

Requirements

What you’ll need

4+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale
Proficiency with scripting and development languages such as Bash, Python or Kotlin
Track record developing highly available distributed systems
Experience with AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes
Meaningful experience contributing to or driving Incident Lifecycle processes
4+ years working on a Site Reliability or Production Engineering team
Experience defining technical plans for significant features or system components
Ability to write high-quality, understandable and reusable code
Experience making impactful changes in a large codebase
Experience developing tools and practices for safe changes
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to participate in a required on-call rotation
