About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide patient care within the Medical Assistant scope of practice and follow policies, procedures, training, and competency requirements
- Perform rooming and visit tasks, including vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings
- Assist providers with or perform ordered procedures
- Perform venipuncture, specimen collection, labeling, packing, lab order preparation, and results tracking
- Conduct point-of-care testing and CLIA-approved waived laboratory and specialty diagnostic tests
- Safely administer medications and vaccines following medication-administration rights
- Handle medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety and regulatory logs, patient messaging, supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals
- Cross-train and perform specialty- or clinic-relevant duties within scope
- Communicate effectively and timely, work as part of a team, and escalate appropriately
- Maintain a clean work environment; clean instruments and equipment and ensure supplies and equipment are stocked and operational
- Provide age-appropriate care based on patient status and developmental needs
- Work Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or GED required
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, or qualifying structured military clinical training per DD214, or EMT for Greater Charlotte/Wake Forest
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required for Greater Charlotte/Wake Forest
- Successful completion of Atrium Health’s competency assessment
- No experience required
- Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrated competency
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient computer skills, including keyboarding, Windows navigation, electronic mail, and exposure to electronic medical records systems
- Customer service skills supporting a positive patient experience
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday
- Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance
- Functional speech, vision, hearing, touch, and fine-hand manipulation skills
- Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job
