About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Analyze and identify documentation needs based on services provided and coding queries
- Classify clinical documentation for tests, treatments, procedures, and other services
- Assign, edit, and track medical record deficiencies in the chart management system
- Review, upload, and process Health Maintenance results and Advance Care Planning Directives to Epic
- Review clinical documentation for evidence of Diabetic Retinopathy and abstract components for Health Maintenance initiatives
- Perform HIM and coding support functions while contributing to metrics, KPIs, and turnaround times
- Obtain and import documentation from internal and external sources to support accurate coding and billing
- Identify and escalate front-end or system workflow issues
- Collaborate with department leaders, clinical informatics, IT, coding, and HIM Optimization to resolve issues
- Validate deficiencies and chart completion status in the EHR
- Notify clinicians of incomplete documentation and inform leadership about accountability sanctions
- Verify presurgical H&Ps and other documents through OnBase workflows and upload them to the EHR
- Incorporate clinical documentation from electronic and paper sources into EHR workflows
- Coordinate support activities and provide Epic training and education to Epic Connect clinics
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
- Typically requires 1 to 2 years of experience in healthcare
- Knowledge of medical terminology and nomenclature
- Ability to work independently and make decisions with minimal supervision using critical thinking
- Effective problem identification, problem solving, and priority setting skills
- Proficient computer and keyboarding skills
- Ability to learn Epic, OnBase, Solarity, Microsoft Office, legacy archives, Teams, and other electronic platforms
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to prioritize workload and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to adapt to task switching while maintaining quality and accuracy
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to safeguard protected health information and possess basic knowledge of HIPAA
- Ability to operate required equipment and perform repetitive hand movements
