About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Prepare and room patients for examinations by obtaining vital signs and documenting or updating pertinent health information
Perform laboratory procedures using aseptic technique and infection-control guidelines
Assist physicians and providers with procedures and surgeries
Administer medications under physician/provider orders
Initiate, maintain, and discontinue IV therapy within limitations
Provide basic patient education on treatment, skills, tasks, and self-care
Follow up on procedure and test requests, prescription refills, appointments, and referrals
Refer questions to registered nurses and physicians/providers and relay directed information to patients
Communicate with physicians and other health care team members
Document and communicate accurate, timely information about patient conditions
Perform advanced clinical tasks including sutures and staple removal, catheterization, audiograms, phlebotomy, EKGs, spirometry, Holter monitoring, casting, and complex wound care
Organize, clean, stock, and maintain examination rooms, laboratory areas, equipment, and supplies
Perform patient positioning and transportation duties, including lifting and pushing/pulling
Complete routine equipment maintenance and quality monitoring, including cleaning and sterilizing instruments
Participate in patient-centered initiatives, care management, performance, and quality-improvement activities
Provide age-appropriate patient care based on assessment and departmental policies and procedures

Requirements

What you’ll need

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the state in which the team member practices
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association, to be obtained within 45 days unless determined unnecessary by the department leader
Completion of an accredited or approved Practical Nursing program
No experience required
Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to develop rapport and maintain professional relationships with patients, staff, and physicians
Excellent organization, prioritization, and problem-solving skills
Proficient computer skills, including keyboarding, Windows operating-system navigation, electronic mail, and exposure to electronic medical-record systems
Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above the shoulders throughout the workday
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs over the head, carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance, push/pull with 30 lbs of force, and perform a 150-lb sliding transfer with a second person
Ability to work with frequent mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood, and body-fluid hazards and wear protective clothing/equipment
Functional speech, vision, hearing, touch, and fine-hand manipulation skills
Ability to operate all equipment essential to the job
