About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Coordinate scheduling of surgical procedures between physicians, physician offices, available OR specialty time, anesthesia, and other departments
  • Coordinate and communicate changes to existing schedules and adjust schedules to maximize room and equipment utilization
  • Schedule next-day and future surgical procedures
  • Maintain and update surgery assignments
  • Print and distribute future OR schedules to appropriate areas
  • Notify providers of schedule changes and additions
  • Obtain necessary lab work, X-rays, and H&P documentation as applicable
  • Process patient charges and calculate charges based on procedure type, length, and supplies used
  • Review revenue, verify codes, and update charges when errors occur
  • Answer, screen, triage, prioritize, and determine the urgency of incoming calls
  • Serve as a resource to providers, staff, patients, and families
  • Operate and troubleshoot office equipment and arrange maintenance repairs
  • Maintain office supply inventory and submit replenishment orders as needed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school graduate
  • Typically requires 1 year of experience in a health care setting performing customer service functions, potentially including scheduling, registration, insurance authorization, and/or patient billing
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with medical terminology
  • Basic knowledge of medical insurance plan terminology
  • Excellent communication skills with patients, staff, and physicians
  • Ability to read and understand verbal and written instructions
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent organization and prioritization skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and short deadlines
  • High attention to detail
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office or similar applications and electronic mail
  • Ability to sit approximately 90% of the workday
  • Ability to lift up to 10 lbs. occasionally
  • Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job
