About the role
- Ensures integrity, accuracy, validity and comprehensiveness of data
- Collects data from electronic and paper documents
- Verifies accuracy of collected data and adheres to standards; requires the ability to resolve conflicts with data and detailed understanding of data definitions
- Presents statistical information
- Uses statistical techniques to describe and evaluate data and uses process analysis tools for the display, interpretation and presentation of data for management and organization action
- Determines data needs and preferred data source
- Defines report needs
- Assists in development of program(s) to create reports
- Evaluates report requests and provides reports as requested to customers
- Participates in development of data variables, collection processes, standards, and data dictionaries
- Works with internal and external data providers to ensure accurate data is available in a timely and accessible manner
- Integrates standards of care/clinical guidelines/protocols in collaboration with multidisciplinary groups and evaluates for process and outcomes improvement
- Identifies opportunities that impede attainment of clinical performance and outcomes
- Participates in enterprise wide, multidisciplinary group activities (ex: QSOC, Medical Staff Quality, Disease Specific)
- Works on practice and process improvements
- Analyzes data to identify patterns and trends areas for improvement
- Facilitates and serves as a resource for the development and implementation of action plans for process and practice improvements
- Reports analysis of data and incorporates findings into the development of action plans
- Measures and evaluates implemented changes/actions
- Reports demonstrated efficiency and quality of improved patient care, system processes and professional practices to key stakeholders
- Provides educational offerings for staff and physicians related to quality topics
- Participates in general orientation for new employees, as requested
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in health related fields or RN required
- 5 years experience in health related field required
- Experience with healthcare data in a healthcare organization strongly preferred
- Competent with personal computers and database management
- Good knowledge of nursing documentation practices and resource tools
- Understands medical terminology including diagnosis and procedure codes
- Understands patient identification processes and processes in patient management
- Ability to successfully complete generic, department, and database-specific skills
- Maintains professional competency and licensure, if applicable
