About the role
- Create and sustain next-generation, energy-efficient, intelligent, wired and wireless lighting control systems for commercial and industrial applications
- Design, model, and test mixed-signal processor-based electronics and PCBs; specify and source electronic components
- Specify and manage firmware and collaborate with firmware engineers to optimize system-level integration and performance
- Evaluate existing and emerging technologies and the Intellectual Property (IP) landscape for risks and opportunities
- Design and support products according to relevant electrical code and laboratory standards; support UL/CSA testing and listing
- Design and support wireless communication products to comply with FCC Part 15 and manage submissions for compliance testing
- Work closely with manufacturing to ensure designs meet manufacturability and testing criteria and sustain products in manufacturing
- Develop and distribute engineering data (Engineering Change Notices, Bills of Material, parts tracking)
- Perform system integration and validation testing, including verification of interoperability with customer-supplied peripherals
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to design reviews, communicate design and component constraints, and drive design decisions supporting business strategy
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering required
- 7+ years of experience specific to analog and digital low voltage circuit design, PCB design, and layout (ideally using Altium)
- Expertise in AC-DC, DC-DC power supplies, power electronics, and AC circuit protection
- Expertise in designing wireless products that comply with FCC Part 15 certifications
- Experience in modeling, P-Spice simulation, circuit analysis, thermal analysis, MTBF, and product lifetime expectancy calculation
- Experience with communication and networking protocols (I2C, SPI, RS-485, Ethernet, etc.)
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of firmware
- Experience with wireless communication protocols (Wi-Fi, ZigBee, Bluetooth, BLE, Proprietary, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to devise novel technical solutions and lateral thinking
- Willingness to challenge existing practice (technical, testing, manufacturing) and add new functionalities
- Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to take projects from start to finish with minimal supervision
- Experience creating product test plans with a hands-on approach to resolve technical challenges
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience mentoring junior team members
