• Enhance the AccuWeather Lightning Network™ by developing workflows that improve detection rates, location accuracy, and false alarm reduction.

• Analyze and validate lightning and weather-related datasets, identifying areas for improvement and model enhancements.
• Support ETL processes with data engineering teams, ensuring data quality, meteorological consistency, and standardization.
• Participate in cross-functional projects applying lightning and weather insights to business use cases.
• Explore new AI/ML and geospatial approaches through research and prototyping to improve detection and forecasting.
• Maintain clear documentation, reproducible workflows, and contribute to team research reviews.

Data Scientist II

• Develop and enhance meteorological models and datasets and models leveraging AccuWeather’s extensive data archives to better predict weather phenomena including severe weather from hail swaths, tropical storm paths, and convective wind events
• Analyze, interpret, and validate model results to inform data teams of areas for improvements, ensuring high accuracy and reliability
• Present findings to internal and external stakeholders, highlighting the why behind the analysis and how it benefits AccuWeather and AccuWeather data users
• Support data operations and data engineering on feature extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) from various sources, optimizing for efficiency and meteorological consistency
• Lead cross-departmental initiatives that provide insights to support a diverse range of business applications across different industry sectors, such as retail, advertising, energy, etc.
• Mentor and guide other Data Scientists and ML Engineers, fostering a collaborative and inclusive team environment
• Advance the field of atmospheric data science through original research, peer-reviewed publications, and active participation in scientific conferences and professional communities

Data Scientist III

• Position Summary: AccuWeather is seeking a digital analytics expert to support how we collect, validate, analyze, and communicate insights across our digital platforms. You’ll play a key role in developing scalable data models, validating digital tracking, creating reports, and delivering actionable insights to support strategic product decisions.
• You will be part of our Digital Analytics team and will collaborate closely with product leaders, developers, and stakeholders across the organization. Your responsibilities will include documentation of data capture methodologies, measurement strategies, identifying KPIs, and delivering analysis that drives product improvements and business outcomes.
• We are looking for a problem solver and data storyteller who is comfortable working independently, managing multiple priorities, and proactively delivering insights that shape strategy. • Key Responsibilities:
• Monitor key metrics and trends to support product and business decision-making
• Collaborate with product owners and key stakeholders to define relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), gather reporting requirements, and design effective analytics solutions
• Develop and optimize advanced SQL queries to extract and analyze user engagement and customer journey data, providing detailed insights into behavioral patterns that inform product strategy and decision-making
• Leverage data visualization tools to build dashboards and reports for cross-functional teams
• Develop and maintain LookML models or similar data modeling artifacts to support scalable reporting
• Present findings and strategic recommendations to product and business stakeholders
• Perform QA and data validation to ensure accuracy and reliability of digital analytics data; identify data gaps and propose improvements to ensure effective measurement
