Act as a trusted advisor and key partner to clients, understanding their unique business and accounting needs
Provide strategic leadership in scalable accounting operations, ensuring compliance with internal control systems, policies, and procedures
Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures; recommend financial tools and benchmarks to enhance operational efficiency
Prepare and manage client budgets, cash forecasts, and monthly financial reports
Manage the month-end closing and issue financial reports to all clients, every month
Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting, contracts and general ledger structure; ensure proper entry into QuickBooks & ICAT
Identify variances from the budget and report significant variances to client
Execute regular client conference calls to review strategy, needs, and operational changes
Assist in gathering tax-related information for external tax return preparation and coordinate audit information for annual audit or review
Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and review/approve monthly and quarterly tax filings
Develop client budgets and cash forecasting tools (including KPIs) to support long-term planning
Monitor budget performance and provide insights into trends, risks, and growth opportunities
Partner with client senior leadership to analyze financial and operational data and provide actionable recommendations
Direct a team of virtual accounting professionals to deliver timely and accurate monthly financial reporting packages
Support, train, motivate and mentor virtual accounting specialists; conduct performance reviews and team meetings
Use internal documentation system for procedures and enforce internal controls to verify integrity of processes
Provide strategic guidance and operational decision making to senior leadership; recommend and implement best practices
Assist with interviewing and onboarding new team members and collaborate with other Senior Controllers on best practices
Requirements
Active CPA, CMA or MBA
Extensive knowledge in accounting for businesses in the under $20M market
10 – 15 years of progressive accounting experience
Combination of 5+ years in public accounting and 5+ years in private industry
5 years supervisory experience
Must have government contracting industry experience
Solid understanding of federal contracts, full accrual accounting
Working knowledge of FAR, CAS, and DCAA requirements
Ability to multi-task and set daily, weekly and monthly priorities
Adaptive leadership style with a passion for mentoring staff
Exceptional ability to work with all levels within the organization
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Experience with hands on accounting with small to medium size businesses
Technical, analytical focus with proactive problem-solving nature
Ability to research and suggest proper accounting solutions

Ability to make quick decisions based on knowledge and experience
Works well within established standards and guidelines
Ability to acclimate to various client environments
Strong experience with QuickBooks, ICAT and/or other accounting software packages
