About the role
- You’ll participate in sponsor kickoff meetings to assist in determining scope of work.
- You’ll perform desktop analysis and develop preliminary detailed scope of work.
- You’ll request proposals from design engineering contractors.
- You’ll review proposed engineering project scope and schedule estimates; validate and make recommendations to discipline manager/leader.
- You’ll review requested resource estimates and make recommendations to discipline leader. Review/Recommend and process the project design specification through DocuSign and Review purchase order and change order requests in Ariba.
- You’ll oversee design engineering work including: confirm design is within scope and proceeding according to schedule, establish progress at milestones such as 30%, 60%, 90%.
- You’ll provide bi-weekly project status updates through the Smart Turnaround Tool (STT) or other methods, if required by Client group manager/leader. The Smart Turnaround Tool is a scheduling tool that will be used for measure progress.
- You’ll provide oversight of quality assurance approach related to the work products to ensure that design packages are accurate and error-free.
- You’ll provide cursory reviews (spot check) on final design packages and issue packages to Corporate Drawing Management (CDM)
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and field organizations and participate in project status/coordination meetings. Lead project status/coordination meeting when necessary.
- You’ll review invoices submitted. Thoroughly check invoices for accuracy. Communicate any inconsistencies, errors, and concerns of invoices to the Client discipline manager/leader before providing approvals.
- You’ll provide construction support by interfacing with internal Client employees and contracted construction site representatives.
- You’ll schedule and lead pre-engineering job walks (field visits) with various project stakeholders to review preliminary scope of work and finalize and prepare agenda and exhibits to discuss at pre-engineering job walks (field visits).
- You’ll prepare pre-engineering job walk meeting minutes and send out for review/comments, if required. For any additional scope of work requested by field personnel during the job walk, requires consult with Client discipline manager/lead prior to finalizing pre-engineering job walk meeting minutes and obtain approval from Project Manager and Project Sponsor.
- You’ll finalize pre-engineering job walk meeting minutes and distribute to all project stakeholders, if required and Review/Recommend and process the project design specification through DocuSign.
- You’ll manage agreed upon project schedule including the execution of the various deliverables such as: Major Electrical Equipment Orders (pdf eMEL order forms); order requests for long lead items; submitting various design packages to different engineering discipline groups (e.g. One Line/Elementary Diagrams/Logic Diagrams to Protection Engineering and Automation Engineering Group; HMI/ePAC or RTU/ePAC and Relay Rack Elevation, Wiring Diagrams, HMI Point List, LAN to Automation Engineering group; Plot Plan and physical drawings to Structural/Civil Engineering group, etc.); Relay Rack orders requests; Mechanical Equipment Electrical Room (MEER) Order requests; and others as needed.
- You’ll actively coordinate with various departments in obtaining final approved electrical equipment vendor drawings and submit as part of the design.
- You’ll manage development and completion of projects Bill of Materials (B/M) and Cable Schedules (C/S).
Requirements
- 5-10 years of design or design management experience in electric substations
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high level of proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook and Project.
- Ability to manage the design process with multiple stakeholders
- Knowledge of electrical substation design
