About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

This position works out of our New Brighton, MN location in the Abbott Vascular Division
Work independently on the design, development, testing and maintenance of embedded software for an exciting new system for the treatment of calcified plaque in arteries
Collaborate on identifying new technologies for implementation into new product development and process improvements
Exercise independent judgment in identifying, recommending, and implementing complex new tools and process improvements
Lead software development, verification and validation efforts
Implement approved design control procedures for software development in accordance with FDA guidelines
Confirm system and component capabilities by designing test methods, testing properties, and documenting results
Provide technical support for all phases of the medical device software lifecycle
Interface with notified body to support product conformance to medical device software and safety standards (IEC 62304 and IEC 60601)

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelors degree + 10 years experience in engineering or related field
At least 5 years of relevant experience in software engineering or a master’s degree in a related field and 3 years of relevant experience
C programming for embedded systems, including ARM based microcontrollers
Systems engineering experience in a medical product development environment
Ability to self-task and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Experience debugging embedded hardware
Excellent creative skills and motivation to complete jobs on short timelines corresponding to industry development needs
Knowledge of practical embedded systems design, embedded firmware, communication protocols, motors, RFID, and sensors technology.
