About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- This position works out of our New Brighton, MN location in the Abbott Vascular Division
- Work independently on the design, development, testing and maintenance of embedded software for an exciting new system for the treatment of calcified plaque in arteries
- Collaborate on identifying new technologies for implementation into new product development and process improvements
- Exercise independent judgment in identifying, recommending, and implementing complex new tools and process improvements
- Lead software development, verification and validation efforts
- Implement approved design control procedures for software development in accordance with FDA guidelines
- Confirm system and component capabilities by designing test methods, testing properties, and documenting results
- Provide technical support for all phases of the medical device software lifecycle
- Interface with notified body to support product conformance to medical device software and safety standards (IEC 62304 and IEC 60601)
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelors degree + 10 years experience in engineering or related field
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in software engineering or a master’s degree in a related field and 3 years of relevant experience
- C programming for embedded systems, including ARM based microcontrollers
- Systems engineering experience in a medical product development environment
- Ability to self-task and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Experience debugging embedded hardware
- Excellent creative skills and motivation to complete jobs on short timelines corresponding to industry development needs
- Knowledge of practical embedded systems design, embedded firmware, communication protocols, motors, RFID, and sensors technology.
